GRAMMY-winning pop star Seal is preparing for a comeback of epic proportions as he gears up to release his 10th album. For his new project entitled Standards, the British singer/songwriter takes on some of the most iconic jazz and swing classics ever written. Seal will undoubtedly put his signature soulful touch on these hits while paying tribute to legendary artists such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone.
To ensure the authenticity of the album’s delivery, we love that Seal chose to harness exalted musical and creative energy by recording his forthcoming album at L.A.’s Capitol Records in the very studio where Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat “King” Cole and many others have created some of their most treasured hits. He also recorded at United Studios, which was established by Bing Crosby and Sinatra and is noted as the famed studio where “It Was A Very Good Year” was recorded by Ol’ Blue Eyes. Seal takes it all to the next level by collaborating with a few of the very musicians who once performed with these icons, including pianist Randy Waldman, who toured with Frank and Paul Anka; bassist Chuck Berghofer, who once performed with Ella and Ray Charles; and drummer Greg Fields, who has played with Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder. “This is the album I have always wanted to make. I grew up listening to music from The Rat Pack era, so recording these timeless tunes was a lifelong dream,” said Seal. “It was a true honor to collaborate with the same musicians who performed with Frank Sinatra and so many of my favorite artists, in the very same studios where the magic was first made – it was one of the greatest days of my recording career.”
Standards is due to be released on November 10th via Republic Records.
