The Soul Train Awards annually honors legends and contemporary hitmakers, but they also shine a bright spotlight on up-and-coming talent and give them a seat at the table – or better yet a piece of the stage. This year two artists were showcased during the 2017 Soul Train Awards Soul Sessions performances, and the first act was the group dvsn, who made their television debut on last night's telecast.

The national treasure that is Lalah Hathaway introduced the Toronto exports. Although dvsn is a duo, comprised of singer Daniel Daley and producer Nineteen85 (née Paul Jefferies), Daley was the only one actually seen performing. Backed by the house band led by musical director Adam Blackstone, Daniel held it down lovely, however. Singing their current single "Mood," he started off slow then mightily flexed his falsetto and got many in the audience to sit up and take notice. Sadly the performance lasted only about a minute-and-a-half before the program cut away to a commercial, but Daniel Daley made quite an impression on dvsn's behalf.
