SoulBounce Exclusive: Jamie Lidell Brings Christmas Cheer With 'Do You Hear What I Hear'

The holiday season will soon be in full swing, and an onslaught of non-stop Christmas music is on the way like Santa in his sleigh. If you're a little tired of the same old yuletide carols being sung by a fire and need something different to shake up your holiday collections, then We Are: The Guard has answered the call. The crowd-sourced label is releasing, Indie Christmas, their first compilation of Christmas classics with a modern twist on Wednesday, November 15th. The project features a number of independent and alternative artists putting their unique spin on favorites, such as Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You," remade here by Cappa, and "The Christmas Song," made famous by Nat King Cole and reimagined by DENM. SoulBounce fave Jamie Lidell also contributes his talents to Indie Christmas with a fresh take on "Do You Hear What I Hear," which we are unveiling for the first time anywhere with an exclusive world premiere.

The song starts off innocently enough with sleigh bells ringing before they fade out and heavy synths, a thick bass line and thumping percussion kick in the door. From there, it only gets funkier. Jamie ominously sings the lyrics to the Christmas standard and turns this peaceful song about the nativity story into something totally unexpected and almost unrecognizable. Lidell's blend of electronica, soul and funk entirely flips the track on its head and is ready to set off any and every Christmas party for years to come.

Press play and prepare to get funked by Jamie Lidell's crazy, sexy, cool cover of "Do You Hear What I Hear." For more unexpected remakes of Xmas faves, add We Are: The Guard's Indie Christmas to your shopping lists.
