Kehlani started 2017 off with a bang thanks to the release of her debut album, SweetSexySavage. The debut saw her stock rising in the music community and around the world as she embarked on her first headlining tour. But now, as the year finally comes to a close, Kehlani has blessed us with one of her most tender songs, "Honey," and she's given a sweet and romantic video to accompany it.
She turned to director David Camarena for the clip and gave her a sun-kissed, golden-hued love letter in return. It shows Kehlani and her love interest (played by Aarianna Johnson) on a romantic road trip through the California countryside as they bask in the glow of love. Kehlani, who dons golden tresses for the occasion, keeps the loving mood going in solo shots walking through fields, sitting on rooftops and even among bees. Taking to Instagram to express her joy about the clip, she also wrote about why she chose her androgynous leading lady. "[T]here were particular reasons why I chose AJ for this video... this song was inspired by an androgynous woman, and I wanted to find someone who fell in line with that, who was 'hard' yet so so soft (yes, like a bee)," she wrote. "I was asked 'why not use a feminine girl?,' but I knew I wanted to honor the inspiration, and paint the picture of the sweet tender aspect that shines through every woman, no matter what."
All the elements combine to make a lovely video for the buzz single that shows why we'll be keeping up with the talented Kehlani well after this year is over.
