Spotify Hit With Billion-Dollar Lawsuit

While it may seem that streaming is king, especially with a company like Spotify reaching a whopping 70 million subscribers, it's not necessarily great for those who make a living off of music. Just ask Wixen Music Publishing, which manages the rights of artists like Neil YoungThe Beach Boys and Tom Petty. The company has filed a lawsuit against the Swedish company to the tune of $1.6 billion. Wixen also asked for an injunctive relief that would require the streaming company to "develop and implement procedures for identifying and properly licensing songs." This isn't the first (and surely won't be the last) suit filed against Spotify in regard to its failure to properly secure music rights and pay out royalties, as they've previously settled a proposed class action suit with songwriters and publishers with a reported $43 million payout. It'll be interesting to see how this one goes. #ShowThemTheMoney
