Blood Orange Announces New Album 'Negro Swan' & Fall Tour Dates

Dev Hynes is, without question, one of the most gifted artists of the millennial generation. Though he occupies the same rare air as many of his talented alt-R&B cohorts (Solange and Moses Sumney, to name a few), he still manages to stand out thanks to his sought-after skills as a producer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, songwriter and vocalist. So the announcement of Negro Swan, his soon-to-be-released fourth album as Blood Orange, is cause for celebration.

Aside from a few audiovisual teasers via social media, Dev has been pretty tight-lipped about what to expect as far as the album's sound or even who might make a cameo on the tracklist. But he did at least give us an idea of the Negro Swan's inspiration. Via press statement, he revealed, "My newest album is an exploration into my own and many types of black depression, an honest look at the corners of black existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people of color. A reach back into childhood and modern traumas, and the things we do to get through it all. The underlying thread through each piece on the album is the idea of HOPE, and the lights we can try to turn on within ourselves with a hopefully positive outcome of helping others out of their darkness." Sounds like this will not only be his most personal project to date, but also the music therapy we need for these days and times.

You can pre-order Negro Swan ahead of its official premiere on August 24th. In addition to digital download, the album will be available via The Domino Mart as a deluxe double LP pressed on limited edition gold vinyl with a double-sided poster. The album isn't the only way to support Blood Orange. Now that he's done rocking the Pitchfork Festival stage, the North American leg of his tour will be making stops at major cities across the U.S. and Canada before heading Europe.
