Lalah Hathaway 'Honestly' Wows The Audience At NPR Music's 'Tiny Desk Concert' Series

There's just something about Lalah Hathaway that makes her seem like the warmest, most welcoming person ever. That sweetness and warmth were on full display when she stood behind the famed desk of NPR Music's Tiny Desk Concert series. She was there to perform a three-song set comprised of a couple songs from her recent LP Honestly — with a special surprise unearthed from her past catalog.

Rocking a black outfit draped with a camo jacket and with her purple-tinted locs in two buns, she began the set with Honestly track "Change Ya Life." The song, on which Lalah list the ways that her love can rock your world, was a fitting opener, as any performance from the songstress is a life-changing experience. She followed that with "Boston," the final track from her 2004 album Outrun The Sky. The romantic number found her wistfully recalling her times in Boston while attending the esteemed Berklee College Of Music. Her fondness for the city is obvious as she sings of leaving her heart in the Massachusetts town. The set ended with the title track from her recent LP. However, Lalah revealed that while many assume that the song is about the end of a relationship, the song is actually about her disenchantment with America and what it's become. It makes the song's chorus, which finds her singing "I don't even want you no 'mo," take on an even deeper meaning.

With only a handful of tour dates left for the year, your chances to catch Lalah Hathaway doing her thing before 2018 is up are getting slimmer and slimmer.
