Jonny Drop had every intention of his next album, The Only Sound, simply being a collection of instrumentals. But as the phrase goes, sometimes even the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry. However, in Jonny's case, his plans for an all-instrumental album getting changed with the addition of vocalists has been a very good thing based on what he's released thus far from the upcoming project. "The Looking Glass" featuring Sarah Williams White and "All This Trouble" have been delightful previews of The Only Sound, and now Drop drops another sample from the album exclusively on SoulBounce with our world premiere of the song "32 Degrees."
For "32 Degrees," Jonny Drop collaborated with Lucid Paradise, the duo comprised of Eric Boss (aka E Da Boss of The Pendletons and Myron & E) and Ishtar Peeler. According to Drop, this song was actually the catalyst for him to flip the script on the album. "'32 Degrees' was born as an instrumental, where samples and live playing meet perfectly in the middle, but as soon as I heard Lucid Paradise lay down their West Coast magic, it suddenly made much more sense to me. As a result, it leaped up the tracklist. This initial collaboration also inspired me to gather more vocalists to work with, giving the album much more depth."
The musical pieces fell into place on "32 Degrees" with Jonny Drop's head-nod worthy and two-step ready production serving as the foundation for Eric's laid-back flow and Ishtar's hazy, sexy, cool vocal. The transatlantic pairing of Londoner Drop and Cali's Lucid Paradise mashes up soul, hip-hop, funk and electronic elements for a chill, catchy jam that's right on time for summer, although we suspect this will get play well beyond this season.
