Illa J Helps Us 'Enjoy The Ride' Of Our Lives

Illa J is on deck to close out this month with the release of his John Yancey project, and from the sound of things, it's going to be another impressive collection for our playlists. We got our first preview last month with his body roll-inducing slow jam "Tokyo." He picks up the pace for his latest leak, however, delivering a feel-good groove entitled "Enjoy the Ride" and a set of visuals to accompany the jam.

The song encourages us to adopt a positive outlook amid the uncertainties of life. Needle-on-the-record static, boom bap beats, a doo-wop sample and bluesy guitar loop give the Calvin Valentine production a decidedly retro feel. The laid-back visuals – directed by Robert Winter, Mac Charghi Sulz and Jan Bastian Kumpfer – maintain the track's throwback vibe with a roll-bounce theme and '70s-style graphics. Against a sunny backdrop with occasional views of palm trees and a beachfront boardwalk, Mr. Yancey and his trio of roller-skating beauties have us California dreaming on such a winterish day.

Unwind and mellow out to "Enjoy the Ride" below. Then pre-order John Yancey ahead of its November 30th release.
