Normani & 6LACK Ride The 'Waves' Of A Bumpy Relationship

Normani is really out here trying to do something. The singer best known for being a member of Fifth Harmony has been building a buzz over the last year with different collaborations and a few buzz singles. Some (not us, but your cousins on Twitter) have even heralded her as the second coming of Beyoncé. While we acknowledge that the rising star is talented, we have more hope for what’s coming next, and we feel it might be something good judging from her latest single, “Waves” featuring East Atlanta resident 6LACK. On the track, the two are having a hate-that-I-love-you tug of war.

“First I blame you, then I want you / F**king hate you, then I love you / I can't help myself, no,” Normani sings, caught up in the rapture of the man of her life, for better or worse. Over a slinky, laid-back groove of bass heavy synths and guitar licks, she goes through the motions of a rocky relationship. 6LACK comes through on the last verse with a slightly sing-songy flow, admitting, “ I come with ups and downs, yeah, I know,” but also expressing that his girl gets on his last nerve, too. However, he’d never try to replace her.

“Waves” is the third loosie we’ve heard from Normani in recent weeks. Last month she collaborated with Calvin Harris for the tracks “Checklist” and “Slowdown.” Could "Waves" be the track that separates her from just being that girl from Fifth Harmony? Hit play and let us know if you’re ready to ride Normani's wave.
