Sony Switching To One-Off Single Model For Future Posthumous Michael Jackson Releases

The handling of posthumous releases for Michael Jackson has been a sore spot for fans, with many feeling that his estate and Sony music have botched things. One fan even filed a lawsuit alleging that fake MJ vocals were used on the first album released after his death. This has made the two entities rethink their approach, with Sony Music CEO Rob Stringer says they're switching up their approach to MJ's unreleased catalog altogether. "We are looking at one-off songs," Stringer said in a recent interview. "In this streaming world, that works because it’s a track-based world. There are a few gems out there that we may unearth individually over the next months and years, but we’re also very, very careful to make sure the fanbase doesn’t feel like they’ve been asked yet again to buy material they have. We are very careful about repacking and extremely cognisant of the fanbase that has everything." Looks like there's some new MJ coming in the near future. #WereJustHereForTheMusic
