Kaytranada Continues To Mesmerize With 'Well I Bet Ya' For 'Gangster Music Vol. 1' Compilation

Following the release of his Nothin like U/Chances EP, which featured Ty Dolla $ign and Shay Lia, DJ/super-producer Kaytranada is back with an instrumental groove that is sure to warm the soul of any music lover during the current cold snap. Though the track isn’t technically new, as rapper Mick Jenkins flowed on the track last year for his single "What Am I to Do," there’s something about a well-done and well-placed instrumental that seems fresh. The soulful beat feels novel yet nostalgic with its deep bass line and chopped vocals reminiscent of the signature styles of J Dilla and 9th Wonder.

This latest offering will be featured on the upcoming compilation album Gangster Music Vol. 1, curated by artist and illustrator Marlon Sassy aka Gangster Doodles. The 27-track, two-LP project will feature original songs from an impressive list of artists, including Madlib, Quelle Chris, Oh No and Mndsgn, and is scheduled to drop on March 2nd. He says, “Every time a new track came in it was like running down the stairs on Christmas morning to open a present.” We certainly know the excitement of discovering new music, and we can’t wait to hear the full project. Los Angeles Bouncers will be treated to a double dose of creative genius as the album’s official release party, which will also feature a Gangster Doodles art show and will take place next month at Rappcats.

Check out Kaytranada’s “Well I Bet Ya” below, and be sure to pre-order the Gangster Music Vol. 1 album. Though there’s no official word on when we can expect a new project from Kaytranada himself, he cleverly cautions his Twitter followers, “don’t rush me….but STAY TUNED.”
