Fans of Jesse Boykins III have been patiently waiting for new music to come from the eclectic crooner. Nearly three years after the release of his last full-length album Bartholomew, we finally have cause to rejoice thanks to his latest single, "You're Gonna Need It," which dropped this week.
On the song, Boykins teams up with producer lophiile from the Bounce-Worthy trio Radiant Children for this seductive warning for his less-than-appreciative lover. Dark and bass-heavy, Boykins' slightly distorted vocals fit in perfectly with lophiile's staccato rhythm. Though it doesn't sound like he's quite ready to put on his walking shoes, his obvious frustration makes it perfectly clear that his patience is running low with the situation.
"You're Gonna Need It" is taken from lophiile's debut EP, Forgive, which dropped earlier this month on Blue Note Records. In addition to Boykins, Forgive also features guest spots from Sophie Faith and NSTASIA. As for Jesse, he promises his own new music will be on the way soon. In the meantime, we'll sit back and revel in the luxurious smoothness of this collabo as we continue to wait just a little while longer.
