Aretha Franklin To Receive Posthumous Pulitzer Prize

Aretha Franklin continues to make history, even in the afterlife. The Queen of Soul, who we lost in August 201, has been awarded a 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Arts, Drama and Music Special Citation. This posthumous award makes Aretha the first individual woman to receive the prestigious honor since the special citation was first awarded in 1930. Franklin joins a number of legendary artists, including Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Scott Joplin and John Coltrane, to receive a Special Citation. The singer is be recognized “for her indelible contribution to American music and culture for more than five decades.” #PulitzerPrizeWinnerArethaFranklin
