YBN Cordae hooked up with his fellow Dr. Dre protege Anderson .Paak for the hip-hop soul banger “RNP,” one of the standouts from his major label debut The Lost Boy. The duo premiered the single on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this summer and recently performed it at the BET Hip Hop Awards '19. Now they’ve decided to release a music video for the track, and it's a comical throwback treat.
“RNP” – shorthand for "Rich N***a Problems" – finds the fellas trading verses like “Shaq and Kobe, like back in ’03,” bragging about cars, cream and all the chicks they can bag. While it seems like party and bulls**t material, the funkdafied beat courtesy of J. Cole and the clever wordplay and mad ish-talking by the MCs keep things interesting.
The APLUS-directed clip is set in New York City circa 1975. The duo lives out their Blaxploitation and hoop dreams portraying basketball playing gangsters/pimps and Big Play Cordae and Sweet Shot Anderson. Big Play and Sweet Shot have a championship game to play, but not before they take a chance on a million-dollar hustle. Will they finish their caper in time to shoot the winning shots at the YBN Summer Classic? You’ll have to watch to find out if they hit a lick and any baskets, and, trust us, it’s worth every minute for the wild afro wigs and vintage wardrobe alone. The video also features cameos from comedians Hannibal Buress and Jay Pharoah who join YBN and Andy in keeping things hilarious. The jokes don’t stop at the end of the song, however, as Buress keeps the cracks coming all through the end credits.
YBN Cordae and Anderson .Paak are so entertaining in "RNP" that we hope that we get to see more adventures of Big Play and Sweet Shot in another video. Press play to get your groove and laugh on.
