Last year, J. Brown caused melodic ripples throughout the R&B community with his impressive vocals. He gained additional exposure as the opening act for Ms. Varner's The Ellevation Tour. Now the singer-songwriter continues to generate buzz with the premiere of his debut EP Forever Yours.
With Valentine's Day coming up, the release is perfectly-timed as the six-track collection is all about romance. In addition to the previously-mentioned songs and his current single "Moon," J. delivers a quality collection of R&B love songs that create a lasting impression and leaves us wanting more. The EP opens with "Honesty," a mid-tempo '90s groove with an old soul. The throwback appeal is kept fresh and modern with lyrics like, "You'll be my Queen, I'll be your Slim." He puts his soulful falsetto on display for the title track, a sweet serenade titled "Forever Yours." Acoustic guitar combined with slow-and-steady percussion set a romantic mood for Mr. Brown to caress our ears with "I Found You."
Citing influences like Babyface, New Edition, Jon B and Jaheim, J. Brown is committed to maintaining the integrity of R&B. He explains, "I don’t have to use Auto-Tune on a record; I can sing on the spot without any technology just like the old cats did. Capturing that 'old school feel' and bringing it back was actually my objective.” With Forever Yours, he proves that he is more than up to the task.
