KIRBY Has Got Soul & Sass On 'We Don't Funk'

KIRBY is that chick. She kicked off the year with brand new single and video "Don't Leave Your Girl" and had us jonesin' for her upcoming EP. Not even two weeks later, the singer is back with yet another single. This time she's putting a little stank on it, though, as she channels the '70s with "We Don't Funk."

The single is almost a love letter to funkateer Bootsy Collins. KIRBY turns to producer Homer Steinwess once again, and he puts it down with a sticky groove that perfectly mimics the aesthetic of tracks like "Rather Be With You" and "Physical Love." KIRBY, meanwhile, uses the opportunity to holla at a hater in the club mad at her shine. "Funk that high horse that you're ridin' / Funk your shade and all your gossip," she sings. "That ain't your hair, girl / You just bought it / You talkin' / I see you mad." She rides the groove with a self-assured confidence that makes her dismissal of the birds flocking around her even more of a sting. But you can also see why her hater's man can't stop staring.

KIRBY's EP won't be here until next month, but we can already tell that she won't be funkin' around when it arrives. Take a listen to her funky track and then be sure to cop it for your own personal collection.
