Laura Mvula Is Looking Toward A 'Brighter Dawn' For 'Clemency'

We haven't heard much from our British fave Laura Mvula since her last masterwork The Dreaming Room. All signs are pointing to a triumphant return, though. The songbird has become more visible over the past few months, including a handful of performances in her native UK. And now we get another hint of resurgence with the release of her new single "Brighter Dawn."

The song, taken from Alfre Woodard's drama Clemency, is a song all about the search for redemption. "Do you believe in the brighter dawn? / Yesterday's gone and another is born / This is the power of a rolling stone," Laura sings on the triumphant chorus. Meanwhile, she crafts another moving, almost orchestral arrangement with her stirring voice as the focal point. It's stacked and layered to perfection throughout the song, with driving drum rhythms and synths fleshing out the rest of the song's sound. Of course, Laura is known for her lush soundscapes, so this is par for the course. We can only hope that there is more from where this comes.

You can listen to the latest from Laura Mvula right here. As for Clemency, the film is still available to view in select theaters and will be available to rent and purchase via your preferred platform in the coming months. Visit the film's website for further details.
