SoulBounce Exclusive: Lindsey Webster Wants To Know If You Can Handle 'A Woman Like Me'

With much of the world locked down in their homes, music has probably been needed more it ever has. Its undeniable ability to entertain and soothe is well-documented, as is its ability to connect us all (just ask our main man D-Nice). If you're feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything going on, then we'd like to suggest the smooth and jazzy stylings of Lindsey Webster. The singer-songwriter whom we last heard from in 2018 with her album Love Inside is gearing up to release her fifth studio album A Woman Like Me, which arrives this Friday. As a special treat, we're offering a preview of the set with an exclusive stream of the title track, "A Woman Like Me."

"A Woman Like Me" finds Lindsey getting straight to the point. It seems that in the past many men weren't able to handle the kind of woman she is, including being "fearless, headstrong" and pretty damn direct. While that might not be every man's cup of tea, she's hoping that this time might be a change of pace. Perhaps that's why she asks exactly this on the rather blunt chorus. "Can you handle / A woman like me? / Are you afraid to let me be free?" she sings defiantly. Though its brash and brazen, her declaration is also vulnerable, which is underscored by the piano-driven soundbed here. Smooth and deliberate, it colors her vocal with a sentimentality that lets us know there's also a softness behind her bold exterior.

We think you can you definitely handle an artist like Lindsey Webster. As a matter of fact, we suggest that you go out and pre-order A Woman Like Me. Before you do that, though, get a taste of what you'll be getting by listening to the set's title track right here.
