Yazmin Lacey Spreads Positive Vibes On 'COLORS' With 'On Your Own' From 'Morning Matters' EP

By now you know that we are big fans of COLORS Studios here at SoulBounce. The Berlin venue has consistently served up some of the year's most incredible performances by an array of talented music makers. The latest featured artist to steal our hearts is Nottingham's Yazmin Lacey. The singer-songwriter settled on a chestnut stage to showcase "On Your Own," the lead single from her recent Morning Matters EP.

The original version is skillfully embellished with head-nod swag, courtesy of Marla Mbemba's suave bass line, expressive keys by Sarah Tandy and the rhythm-n-flow of Femi Koleoso on drums. But for the COLORS performance, the song takes on a slightly different vibe in its acoustic form. Accompanied by Jordan Hadfield on guitar, Yazmin's sublime vocals penetrate the soul and speak to our current times as she sings, "Bad things will happen in our lives, but we must keep a high vibration." It's a melodic balm that we all need as we try to remain positive during quarantine.

Mixed by Eric Lau, and featuring production by Craigie Dodds, Moses Boyd and Jake Milliner, Morning Matters is the third installment of an EP trilogy that began with Ms. Lacey's debut in 2017. “Black Moon was trauma, When The Sun Dips 90 Degrees was healing, and Morning Matters is moving forward," she explains. When speaking of her latest release, the London-bred songstress shared that "The EP is dedicated to anyone that’s ever struggled with getting up and out in the morning, for everyone doing work on themselves and trying to live better.”
