Kehlani Is Ready To Ride Or Die On Her Wedding Day In 'Bad News'

Kehlani is giving her "Morning" co-star Teyana Taylor a run for her money in the self-directed video department. Under the pseudonym Hyphy Williams, the singer-turnt-director has created a number of simple but arresting visuals to support her latest album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t. Her latest clip for “Bad News” is no exception.

On “Bad News,” the singer is pleading with her boyfriend to give up life on the streets so they can enjoy their happily ever after. “Don't wanna get no call with no bad news,” she woefully sings on the second verse, expressing her concern for a lover who wants all the smoke. Her message is delivered over a downtempo sound bed of haunting background vocals and trap drums.

The video opens with Kehlani dressed in a wedding dress sitting halfway in the passenger seat of a classic coupe on hydraulics, with the majority of her dress hanging out the door as she looks out of the window. The clip then transitions to a somber-looking bridal photoshoot, where Kehlani’s forgoes the usual something borrowed and something blue motifs for drinking, smoking, reading magazines, cocking a gun, pole dancing and bouncing in a lowrider. You've never seen a bride like this before.

This clip for "Bad News" is the fifth "Quarantine Style" video to come from Kehlani. Over the past few months, she's shown that the pandemic hasn’t inhibited her creative freedom. If anything, she’s found a way to continue growing as an artist and we're here for her spreading her creative wings.
