Gwen Bunn & Faith Evans Go 'Between The Lines' For Love

It's not every day that people get to work with their idols. But sometimes those dreams do come true. Just ask Gwen Bunn, who is prepping her newest project Mood Swings for release later this year. The singer-songwriter has dropped off singles such as "No Days Off" and "Don't Go" to stoke anticipation for her new album and recently had the good fortune of working with industry legend Faith Evans, and the result is her latest single "Between The Lines."

Upon pressing play, you'll see why including Faith on the track was a no-brainer. The song starts with a chipmunk soul sample of Faith's 1995 debut single "Soon As I Get Home" (which just so happens to be celebrating its 25th anniversary this week). Gwen flips the sample into a ballad about longing and loving. "I've been running, running out of time / And I've been searching, searching 'til I find / The perfect way to show you how / I need you now," she sings on the chorus. Faith, meanwhile, provides backing vocals and ad-libs and even chimes in with a soulful bridge.

"This song was special for many reasons," Gwen said in a statement. "The song is about longing for someone and knowing that y'all are better together than apart regardless of the ups and downs. [A] legendary moment because Faith doesn't do many features and her being willing was an honor."

Faith also gushed about working with Gwen, saying, "When they sent me the track, I was honored that she sampled my song, 'Soon As I Get Home' and wanted me to be on it. I went in and laid backgrounds, ad-libs and wrote a new verse...and here we are!"
