Chloe x Halle Bring Their 'Ungodly Hour' To NPR Music's 'Tiny Desk (Home) Concert' Series

When it comes to performances during the pandemic, Chloe x Halle have the game on lock. The sister duo has shut things down every time they've been called to the stage (or, in most cases, their tennis court out behind their house) to show us what they've got. After appearing on everything from YouTube's Dear Class Of 2020 special to Jimmy Kimmel Live! and shutting down the VMA pre-show, the ladies have proven that they know how to do it. But just in case you weren't paying attention to their talent, they strip things back with an all-female backing band for their appearance on NPR Music's Tiny Desk (Home) Concert series.

The ladies stick strictly to the tracklist from their sophomore effort Ungodly Hour for the occasion, giving us perhaps a preview of what their live shows might sound like when concerts and tours become a thing again. They open with the heartfelt and breezy "Don't Make It Harder On Me" while sitting front and center on their set as the live instrumentation soars around them. The arrangements take on new life from their studio-created arrangements and allow the ladies to play with smiles on their faces as they go through the five-song set that included "Baby Girl," their now staple hit "Do It" (complete with a rap from the remix and jazzy horns on the chorus) and "Ungodly Hour." They surprisingly close things out with "Wonder What She Thinks Of Me," an album cut on which they imagine an affair through the eyes of the other woman.

It's a shame that we were robbed of a tour supporting Ungodly Hour, but this performance definitely quells any doubt that Chloe x Halle can recreate (and even elevate) the material live and in-person. See what we mean by checking out their Tiny Desk (Home) Concert performance below.
