Chuck Styles Art*

Art and music have always gone hand in hand. That’s especially true when an artist is as inspired by music as Chuck Styles is. The Philadelphia-based artist has a unique style that combines Afrocentric motifs with modern elements that speak to the soul. Perhaps that’s why he’s been commissioned to work with companies like HBO and Cadillac and has even done album art for some of our faves.

Just taking a peek at Chuck’s website reveals moving work evoking the images and emotion of the civil rights era and other areas of Black life in America. However, his work truly shines when he also allows musicians to be his muse. He’s painted a veritable who’s who, including Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Yasiin Bey and more, as he marries his talent with pop culture. A few of our favorites include a dynamic portrait of Rihanna, a play on Solange’s A Seat At The Table and When I Get Home covers that combines the images like the royalty you see on playing cards and a deconstructed Nina Simone portrait that is simply breathtaking. Even if prints aren’t your thing, Chuck has a ton of merch — from apparel to phone wallpapers and even gift cards — that should satisfy even the pickiest of people on your holiday list — D-Money
