The Next Generation Of Motown Acts Comes Together For 'A Motown Holiday' EP

For those of us in the 40 & Over club (and a few of you young'uns as well), some of our earliest Christmas memories include a little Motown playing on the stereo in the background. From "Silent Night" by The Temptations to "Give Love On Christmas Day" by The Jackson 5 and "Someday at Christmas" by Stevie Wonder, these timeless gems never fail to bring joy to families everywhere. Decades later, Motown is soundtracking the season for a new generation with the festive compilation A Motown Holiday.

The five-track EP includes three original tunes by artists gifted with a voice and a pen. GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Asiahn (fka Asia Bryant) uses her elastic range to unwrap an R&B anthem for the lonely with "All I Want." New signee Ted When grabs his guitar to showcase a different side of Motown, charming listeners with his folksy tune "Snow In California." Instead of feeling merry and bright, Njomza is nursing a heartache on "Christmas Blues," a dramatic ballad backed by strings. Meanwhile, the classics are represented well as Joy Denalane and Tiana Major9 put their respective spins on "Someday At Christmas" and "Silent Night."

Featuring heartwarming cover art (an homage to Black families) by LA-based artist Aaronya Medici, A Motown Holiday is currently available for download via your go-to digital retailers. And for those who want the Motown sound to last throughout the holiday party at work or the Christmas dinner Zoom with the family, check out Spotify's Motown Christmas playlist. Filled with almost three hours of soulful grooves, the specially-curated list will make any virtual gathering a time to remember.
