August Alsina Celebrates The Inner Beauty Of All Women On 'Pretty'

August Alsina has been pretty quiet lately. Maybe he was entangled in something? We’re not quite sure. Whatever the case, he's back with a music video for his single “Pretty.” The singer has always had a sensitive side, and he’s hit us right in the feels with this visual, just in time for Women’s History Month.

Produced by The Exclusives, “Pretty” celebrates women for their inner beauty a. Against the twinkling keys and throbbing deep bass, August sees the strength of women in the struggle. “You were forged in the fire, raised by the city / Thought you would give up on life, you never did it / And you stay so pretty,” Alsina sings. And, because you need to check on your strong friends, he offers a shoulder to cry on and a listening ear. Vocally, August gives us genuine empathy, as he’s gone through his own trials and tribulations and knows adversity all too well.

That genuine sense of compassion and understanding is brought to vibrant life in the video. Directed by Megan Gamez, the visual begins with the message, “The only difference between a flower and a weed is judgment.” We then hear a mother ask her daughter, “Do you feel pretty, today?” while doing her hair, to which her daughter responds confidently, “Yes. I tell myself every day.” While simple, this scene is packed with emotion and meaning. The clip then showcases differently-abled women with physical challenges that don't take away from their beauty.
