Common, PJ & Damian 'Jr. Gong' Marley Give Us A Dancehall Jam On The 'What Do You Say' Remix

After watching Common and PJ’s video for “What Do You Say (Move It Baby),” we were ready to hit the skating rink and do some laps to the funky '70s groove. Now the duo adds Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley to the track, and the trio has us wanting to do our best dutty whine with their new dancehall remix.

The addition of Damian Marley breathes new life into the song, coming through like a Jamaican summer breeze over the revamped reggae production. PJ’s vocals are now more accentuated while Common’s flow is slightly off from the new beat, but not in a way that would disturb the groove, but like a dude who is trying to spit his game as quickly as possible before the song changes and the moment is lost. Damien spits some romantic lines, as well, saying at one point, “Let’s love each honestly, like a flame against the wind.” It all comes together rather lovely, as if that was the plan all long.

Along with the remix, Common and company have also delivered a lyric video to accompany it. The simple clip incorporates the lyrics into scenes of Black men and women dancing against a transitioning landscape based on the Jamaican flag, as speakers bump the new tune.

If we had to choose a favorite version of “What Do You Say (Move It Baby),” we’d honestly be at a loss for words right now – they are both that good. At the end of the day, both versions should get some burn at your first post-panny bashment.
