SoulBounce Exclusive: Plutonic Lab & Olivier St. Louis Put Fake Friends On Notice With 'Long Slow'

Australian producer Plutonic Lab has been hard at work in order to prepare his new EP The New Ruins for its upcoming release. He gave us a taste of the set with his single "All Mine" featuring singer Miloux. Now, with the project on the horizon, he's giving us another preview with his latest single "Long Slow" featuring Olivier St. Louis and SoulBounce is bringing you the track's exclusive premiere.

"Long Slow" takes a different path than what we've previously heard from The New Ruins. Unlike the mellow, jazzy tones of "All Mine," the sound bed for the song is dark and slightly ominous. In fact, it's slightly more reminiscent of a trap song. The switch up allows the two artists to take some artistic risks. Plutonic Lab weaves ghostly synths around the booming drums to give everything a haunting feel. Olivier, meanwhile, takes the opportunity to let folks who pretend to be friends only to end up snakes know who they're dealing with. "Make me think you're friendly / But in reality have me runnin' 'round in circles / Chasin' my tail / I should've known," he sings at one point. He's done playing the fool, though, as he lets everyone know, "You can step down / New sheriff in town."

"Throughout the course of building friendships in life, despite our experiences, we can often fail to learn from our mistakes," Olivier St. Louis said of the song's lyrical inspiration. "Sometimes we keep far too many wrong people for reasons far less important than we believe. 'Long Slow' is about the effort it takes not just to recognize and remove the chaff in our lives, but to never let it back in."

"Long Slow" is just a taste of what The New Ruins has in store. "In the process of writing this record I proved to myself that I’m still progressing and evolving as an artist," Plutonic Lab said about the EP. "I really got to develop the orchestrations and song craft. Each collaborator inspired diverse compositions and I think in turn The New Ruins became a much more nuanced and honed project. I guess good things take time and I dedicated myself to create something beautiful and worthwhile, even though the world seemed like it was falling apart."

You can look out for The New Ruins to arrive next month. As for "Long Slow," you can listen to our exclusive stream of the single below and pre-order it right now. It'll be available to the public officially on May 27th.
